I have been a member of facebook for three years now but I do feel that certain chnges such as being able to see who has viewed your profile makes the site a little bit too public and inpersonal. Any thoughts?

Its a application and only shows the list of your friends, If any other person who is not in your friend list then that application will not show you that person.

Facebook does gather a lot of info about you, but then again it only has the info because you give it to it, i heard one pretty crazy thing about facebook and its that it indexes all your private messages and private chats and shows your advertising related to what your talking about etc..

It is not Facebook that is allowing people to see who viewed your profile, this is an app from another company. Plus, I have yet to see one of these apps that actually work, they are all scams if you ask me.

I hate it... every website has Facebook comments - so when you comment friends see it... so I always turn the comments to profile off.
Applications... I always avoid them & block the majority...
Commenting on pages & pic's... friends are always updated...
There should be a button where you can turn off friend notifications... they don't need to see everything that I do on FB.

Here is solution. You should send all your friend this message. then you don't need to worry if all your friends do this.

To all my contacts, friends, I request you that with the recent changes in FB, now one can see things from people who are not in your contacts list. Just because a contact of yours makes a comment or "likes" in some activity of that person. I do not want people to contact me, and would like that they donot read and see all my comments and stuff. But I can not change this myself because facebook has configured it this way. But you can do it for me.
PLEASE place your mouse over my name above (do not click), a window will appear and hover over the mouse on "Friends" (without clicking), then down to "Settings", click here and a list will appear. Click "Comments and Like" and it would thereby REMOVE the CHECK. By doing this my activity amongst my friends and my family does not become public. A Thousand Thanks!

Paste this on your wall for your contacts, if you care about your privacy!!! :)

I do not think these social media sites keep our personal information secure from the general public. We do not know what they do with it behind our backs. People should be more cautious about displaying personal information in these sites.

As with any other website Facebook has as much access to your information as you give them. So if you don't want something to get out there, do not share it!
