Does Google Sitemaps do this to PageRank?

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen or heard of this:

My site has been up and running since October, 2004. All was well with Google as far as PageRank assignment goes.

In late December of 2005 I decided to give Google Sitemaps a try. Since then I have added approximately 140 pages to the site. While Google Sitemaps seems to work as advertised, every page added to the site since last New Years has a PageRank of zero.

The pages that had been on the site before trying Sitmaps have retained their original (respectable) PageRank but anything new always keeps a PageRank of zero.

All of the pages that have been added since starting with Sitemaps are similar in structure to the stuff that was already on there.

    Anybody know what gives?

Were the pages cached before the last PR update?

have you checked for canonical issues with regard pagerank.

Are the new pages actually indexed?

    @OWG

I'm not overly concerned about tweaking the page content to increase the PR another notch. I'm far too busy with other things to do that. I'm just wondering why the content that had been crawled by Google in the conventional fashion had been assigned a PR of 4 or 5 while anything crawled by Google w/GS has zero.

It should be noted that once most of these pages are uploaded, the content does not change. These are static pages.

These new pages are indeed indexed. While I do receive referrals from Google to these new pages, most of the referrals come from Yahoo even though the vast majority of search engine referrals come from Google. In other words, my pre-2006 pages are a big hit with visitors who find my site through Google.

Just to clarify my previous post:

Excepting the main page of my site, most of the visitors to my site who are referred through Yahoo arrive at my newest pages. From Google, the pre-2006 pages.

    Go figure.

WTF are you talking about? I didn't mention Anything about what you replied to LOL are you on drugs or something? ;)

Let me ask again but I will type slower this time :D

IF the pages were not indexed by Google before the last page rank update, then they would NOT have any PR now. PR is added periodically (well client side it is, server side it is instantaneous).
Canonical issues as in you are checking www.domain.com/newpage.htm , but google has cahced domain.com/newpage.htm (without the WWW.)

Not sure where you got any thing about tweaking pages to up pr as content has nothing whatsoever to do with PR , PR is PURELY link value and nothing else. :)

Hope this makes my questions more clear.

I should also add that you appear to be a little confused as to how the whole spidering thing works. Spiders do not 'crawl' any more, they are directed. They get given a page to spider, they index it, send the contents home to base, and wait for the next url to be sent to them. There is no difference between a page spidered from a sitemap and a page spidered from a link. Be Aware though that if there are no links to a page it wwill not display PR . I say display Pr as all pages start l;ife with a pr value, it just displays as zero on the tool bar!
