    As you´ve been told, it doesnt affet your ranking. Unless the hosting you chooce is down most of the time, and its security against worms and hacks attacks (believe me some hackers doesnt like IM websites lol) you shouldnt worry about that.

    Having your site hosted on either unix or windows won't play any role at all but the loading and crawl speed of your website makes a big difference. If you have a slow host or one that is down frequently, definitely switch over to another one. Also, you might want to look into litespeed hosting as opposed to apache, since it is about 9 times faster for static content and about 50% for dynamic content ;)
