Does Social Bookmarking bring Traffic and is it advisable in traffic terms ?

I worry that SEOs are jumping on the bandwagon and potentially ruining things for everyone. Submitting to Digg et all is worthwhile, but your content has to be worth submitting or you're wasting your time.

Some bloggers/webmasters complain that Digg traffic cripples your site and gives you a short-term boost in traffic that's no use in the long run. Commenters are often rude and offensive and bring no value to the site.

However, there are studies by bloggers out there that claim exposure on a social bookmarking site can attract links from other bloggers and help boost your PageRank, etc. Other findings suggest an increase in RSS/Email subscriptions after Digg/Del.icio.us/Reddit exposure, which is obviously better for long-term exposure.

Also, be wary of submitting sub-par content. Digg and Netscape are known to ban sites that are spamming them or trying to 'game' their algorithims.

As I say, don't hop on the bandwagon unless you've got something worth submitting! By reducing the value of these services, you'll eventually end up reducing their impact.

 

this is a question about QUALITY versus QUANTITY. Of course, the backlinks brought by numerous bookmarkings can be advantageous but it can never give a guarantee of a direct traffic. Quality, after all, can be more superior than quantity. (in my opinion).

 

In performing link building Social bookmarking works great. It also helps in getting good SERP results and in getting a huge amount of traffic. But when you are looking for more traffic then also do article submission, Forum posting and blog creation. these activities will also give you great result.
