    I just want to know does social bookmarking improve site performance or it just increases the page rank. Because i had observed while social bookmarking my site did not improve performance traffic but it could gain very good page rank.

    As other have mentioned, social BM sites are great for creating backlinks. But in addition to that, you can get a fair amount of free traffic if you use them consistently and provide good quality information.

    I get quite a bit of traffic from Digg, StumbleUpon and a few others. But again you must be consistent.

    Social bookmarking only gives you website indexing (by my experiense) - most of your social bookmarks will be nofollow, or from PR0 pages - so it will not impact on your website pagerank.

    It depends what you mean by "performance", if you are talking aobut traffic, then yes, bookmarking can significantly increase traffic. Most social bookmarking sites don't help PR as they are nofollow.

    Also it can bring you traffic directly because social bookmarking website has many users and is a trusted source for them top find their needs.

    It can bring a lot of traffic, if successful. Of course the traffic at first will not be valuable. But eventually you'll get a lot of backlinks from this kind of traffic.

    No PR of course. But it can indirectly affect your PR because of better search engine ranking on SERPs. But the aim should be high quality consistent content.
