    My wife, who fancies herself to be a professional shopper (and she CAN shop!) had taken Black Friday quite seriously over the years. She and her co-conspirators (other female family members for the most part) would map out a strategic campaign to ensure that they were in the right place at the right time for the right product(s). This often involved midnight sorties followed by a full frontal assault around 4:00am - 7:00am or so on Black Friday. This year, however, she simply said "I am not doing Black Friday this year." Afraid that she might change her mind, I simply nodded and did not ask why. Saves me money, this way. But I suspect the fact that some stores are now opening on Thanksgiving Day at around 8:00pm is starting to change her perception of the event. Perhaps the retailers have gotten too greedy (desperate?) and over-reached into the actual holiday. There has been some TV coverage on the angle that early Black Friday openings do not allow retail employees to enjoy the holiday with their family and that may be having an impact.

    Anyway, it has been an earthshaking development in my household.

    But, I am looking forward to turkey and pumpkin pie, nonetheless...
