Drop Shipping Advice

It seems that everyone is using the same drop shipping companies. Whenever I find an online dropshipper, I search on froogle and I find 100 other sites selling the same thing. Most of the resellers sell it at the price of the dropshipper and add a $2-$4 handling fee for their profit.

Anyway, I was thinking of finding "non-typical" places to find a drop-shipper or even somewhere I could buy some inventory to keep at my house. For instance, looking for local warehouses or something. I really don't know the first thing about this business and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to approach local companies. Is haggling acceptable?

I'd like to hear people's experiences with local warehouses or dropshippers. I don't expect you to give me the name of who you are using; I'm looking more for advice in how to get into the business.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Sayyes,

That's the same situation I was in when I first started my dropship business.
When starting out you'll come across those companies that charge you to sell their things (like a 100 dollar annual fee) and then you'll see many other people selling the same exact thing on ebay or other Ecommerce platforms.

What I did, and what you should do is think of a product that many people don't sell and don't want, then you'll have a very niche product online store targeted to a specific part of the population. I don't ever post my exact products in these online public forums, but the product genus is alternative energy. I found this idea after finding a dropshipper through Worldwide Brands, Inc. They have a dropshipper list that has tons and tons of products through various dropshippers throughout the country and charge you a one time fee for their drop ship directory.

It takes time and effort with the dropship biz, how much time and effort do you want to put into this. My first store was launched via Ebay (auctions driving traffic to my store). It took a few days to setup, had about 6 unique products, $1500 in sales in the first two months.

Do you recommend buying this list or others like it? I've heard people say that these lists are a waste of money. What lists do you recommend?

This is only half the battle because I have some ideas - but I don't know of any dropshippers that sell those products.

Just out of curiosity, how much was the profit? You don't have to reveal that if you don't want!

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to look into some of those lists right now!

    Hello again,

Worldwide Brands' drop ship directory costs about $69.95 and it will save you LOADS OF TIME. People that criticize lists like these say that you can find all these companies yourself, however many dropshippers don't publicize that they dropship because they get too many inquiries. That's why if you believe in the phrase (Time=Money), this list is worth it.

-Visit my website, I made it to help potential dropshippers like yourself and I have detailed information about my experiences with the business.

I heard good things about WorldWide Brands. I tried a few other lists and they were horrible. It seems like a big scam. I found some alright deals, but with shipping, it was no longer worth buying. When I checked eBay, there were plenty of the exact same products selling for LESS! I later found out that the "list" contained nothing more than sites set up to as drop shippers that actually didn't do anything other than go to the real site and get the items drop shipped. The guy was basically making money off the list, and if anyone bought anything, he made a few more bucks.

Since then, I quit trying to make a fortune in drop shipping. I did find one good drop shipper and they didn't advertise that they drop shipped. Now, I stock my own inventory. I get better deals on the price (I am now buying in bulk), and I can control everything. I have to stock items, which I store in my garage, and I have to ship them myself, most carriers have an online label printing service and free pickup. All in all, I don't think I would go back to drop shipping.

I ran into this same problem when starting out with the dropship biz, that's why it takes time to research and pay for the right information (the right drop ship directory), you are right in saying there are many people out there just making money selling a bad list.
-I'm making money doing it, it's possible, but to suceed you can't expect it to be successful overnight, there are plenty of suppliers who will dropship for you and allow you to make a 10-20% profit.
