Not sure about the rest of the process, but at least one part of it would be to convert your word document into a PDF. As far as the page layout and all for creating an ebook goes, I'm not sure.

Mention your site and links in the book A LOT

Convert it to PDF so recipients can't reverse engineer/strip/copy it

Make it available as an email attachment to an autoresponder on your website--you get an email and you get to distribute your ebook

Now, if you plan to CHARGE for the ebook, you'll need a paid converter to put password protection for access.

For the links in your book, use a script with a DB backend. That way you can have that script do a redirect and you'll be able to update links in the book w/o actually updating the book itself.

    Hello,

Like stated above, after you get your ebook into .pdf format - get yourself a "one page" site up. I create ebook covers - so you can actually have someone working on the cover while you get your ebook polished, formatted into pdf, and start writing yourself some ad copy.

Depending on what your ebook is about, I'd suggest searching around the cheaper graphic sites to find yourself some nice images that could go into your ebook. It might just be me, but the "pretty" docs that have nice formatting, borders, images etc make ebooks more of a joy to read for me. Flat dry black and white text is OK as long as it's a 15 page report on something I REALLY need to know quick.

Craft, fishing, instructional ebooks for example - are much better with suitable images. You can find some great stuff at:

    sxc.hu
    istockphoto.com
    dreamstime.com

Get yourself a cover image (you can use the flat image on one of the first few pages of your ebook too.) You can do the design yourself or hire someone. Get your website all set up, plug your ebook in, add a paylink, and away you go.

You might also try (like stated above) - to capture an email list from the front page if you'll be giving your ebook away.

Once the site is live, you could test little changes to it to see if your conversion gets better. Then just try driving as much traffic as you can over to that new site. :)

    Hope this helps! Good luck!
    Michelle

    Whoops,

On rereading - you just wanted this one to be added to another site. Well, you could have a one page sales site for the ebook and add links to that page.

Or, since you just want to add the ebook to an existing site, you'd only need a good cover and a short paragraph or two about the book. Let me know if you need help, I'll give you a hand.

    Thanks,
    Michelle

You can set up server permissions for your PDF link so people can only access it from one url.

LOL - I know the feeling. Too much assult on the brain.

Step One: Finish Your EBook! = This includes adding any images if you would like them, add your disclaimer, copyright info, ISDN number if you want one, your name, URL, "Forward" area etc. Get a cover for your book, either design it yourself or have someone else create it, but hopefully it won't be "sloppy." Then get your ebook converted into .psd format.

Step Two: Depending on how you want to sell the book - from another site - you just need to write up a paragraph or two about the book and give it a spot on your site. Don't forget a few links pointing to your new book. :)

Step Three: Build a download page that says "Thanks for your purchase" etc - and set a link to the downloadable zip file with your ebook contained. I'm not sure how to encrypt these pages, but haven't had too much trouble so far. It's something I'll need to learn too.

Step Four: Set up paylink. If you don't already have an account to Paypal - now would be the time to get one. Most onliners now days want to use Paypal, and it works fine for me so far. You'll create your button right in paypal and paste the code onto the page wherever you want the button to come up. You can set other options right in paypal that will give the customer thier download link directly after payment.

Step Five: - market your ebook! Easier said than done.

It took me quite a while to learn some of this stuff. Sometimes it goes easy - sometimes it doesn't - but take one thing at a time. Don't learn how to set a paylink up for instance until you're ready for that part - otherwise you'll just forget, and have to relearn it.

    Thanks!
    Michelle

rar it and put a 6+ character password in it. Although your bigger concern should how to stop illicit distribution of it because if your book is good and if few people buys it,than the rest can get it for "free" from them.

If that's the problem, just release the book as free and upsell using html pages inside the book or, if you don't use a compiler that allows for html pages, use links throughout to upsell.

    Sure.

Issue: When people get your ebook and they think it's good, they will probably want to email a copy to their friends. This is a problem if your revenue comes primarily from the SALES of that ebook.

Solution: Either keep a price tag on the ebook (to maintain the "exclusivity" factor and pump up the perceived value) or release it as a FREE ebook.
You make money by having links WITHIN the book that the readers can click on for more information (of course, you'll only offer partial info in the ebook or info that needs updating :D ). The user clicks on the link to get more information or updates. You can then advertise to them via the webpages they click to from the ebook.

To go one step further, use an ebook compiler that compiles HTML pages. This allows for a nicer reading experience and should be more conducive to link clicking. You can include multimedia in these pages and, generally, a more visually entertaining format.

Even if you protect your e-book in time of selling , how you can protect it from illegal copy?
Protecting an e-book comes from philosophy.
The user can use printscreen button on keyboard , or hit the F8 key for copying your pdf pages.
Only a software can prevent these , it must empty the clipboard or observ on some of keyboard hits.
Also you must prevent printing abilities which is another story because you must also prevent virtual printers.
I think making e-books to ISO images and selling them could be a good idea , the user can then write that image to CD and of course it should be with aiding 3 or 2 softwares. You can then protect that images better and reduce the number of intruders.
I've published an e-book last year in my country which is full of hackers and crackers this way and no one have overcome that , they have obtained and published some similar e-books from my idea...
