I just started a site. www.sandsword.com And I was wondering. Should I give out about 100 free emails with my domain name. And then have a small ad for my site on every outgoing email? They would login with webmail.sandsword.com Should I do this? And if so, how would I be able to put an ad on all outgoing emails from my domain?

Well, IMHO, I rather not give out free emails to just about anyone because you never know what they will do with it. One or two spam originally from your domain name and your mail server can get you blackmarked.

As you are talking about adding Ads, I would take it that the email accounts would be used by strangers. As to how to add the ads, it would depend on what mail server and webmail client you are using.

I won't recommend you to provide free email accounts to any stranger. It can create problems for you and your website.

If your site's popularity is your main goal, use other methods. In the current Internet era, RSS can do amazing things for your online business. Just learn its proper use and apply some nice SEO techniques. DP is full of great SEO related topics.

I know one email website can add this to the bottom all outgoing emails.

I honestly don't see the value in it, and besides, there are hundreds of free email services out there, there's no way to compete

No value in it. Thats why anyone can get a unlimited number of email addresses with their hosting packages. Your time will be better spent on other marketing. Besides the first time you lose someones email they will blame you.

Currently the big players like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail and Lycos are offering free email accounts with very generous configuration. It would be difficult to compete in this market.

Free email services are expensive to maintain in terms of cost and time.

Why? Let me be more specific. What do you hope to accomplish by giving out free email addresses?

Giving out email accounts was big in the 90s but it's no big deal today. If you do give any out to strangers just give them pop3 access and make them use their own smtp account.
