Well... It just depends on how long it takes you to build traffic to your site. The more traffic you have, the better the possibility of people clicking on ads so you can earn revenue.

There is no clear cut answer to your question Harmony. There are so many factors, such as content and traffic, that affect how a web site or blog performs.

For example, I created a Blogger hosted finance blog around the time CNBC held a fantasy portfolio contest, and over two months, it made $1000 from AdSense. Now that they contest is over, it averages $1 to $5 per day.

I was an active poster on the CNBC Squawk Blog and I had a link in my signature. The majority of my traffic came from here, along with ranking in Google for several terms towards the end of the contest.

How long is a piece of string?

It depends on the content of your website, the popularity of your website, the target market of your website, how much work you put into it, etc etc.

Just work hard and enjoy it :)

I installed adsense on a 6 week old site of mine yesterday, and made $9.78 on my first day :) The site is doing about 1500 visitors a month.

I think you have to take into account the CPC, not just the traffic.

Doesn't SEO imply optimizing for popular terms/keywords that everyone else is aiming for? Like "Loans". If I optimized for "Loans" would my site initially be at the top at searches like msn? or would I have to pay to get that spot?

If you go for the popular keywords you will be competing head on with many other sites all going for the top spot. You thgen have to consider whether your SEO skills will get you to the top.

    Two other ways are:-

    1. to go for the long tail - the three, four and more word searches on the same topic with fewer searches but agregating to a larger number if you cover off many of these

    2. Find a niche and specialise in this - become the big fish in a small pool.

Adsense income is a factor of visitors, click through rate and the price per keyword. New sites do not get served the higher paying advertisers and hence your income may only be cents per click rather than dollars because Google suppressed the high paying advertisers on your site.

Interesting post ebusiness4all, i've not heard about google supressing high paying adverts on new sites before - where did you come by this information?

Any idea how long this period lasts?

Mkaing $10 consistantly is quite difficult if you are new and you will need lots of traffic to make it work. You also need to get pages indexed efficiently as well whihc will be harder under the Big Daddy update. GL though ..ur gonna need it

Um hum kinda. But you are wrong though. You need good 'root keywords' 3-5 keyword phrases can often be very competitive as well.

Interesting topic. I own many sites and my experience says that the criteria for earning $10/day is different for different sites. The topic/niche of the site is a major determinant. I have a 1 year old site with 300 daily uniques which earns less than a dollar a day on a average. Then there are some niche sites on more popular topics, 2-3 months old, which earn around $3-4 per day. And lastly, all my myths were broken when my recently launched site started earning $10+ from its first day with only 75-150 uniques daily. It's all about the niche!

Traffic and content also matter. The more the number of content pages, the more will visitors browse around your site and the more the chances of relevant ads being displayed.

The lots of traffic is off the mark, it depends what the value of the clicks is, like I said the other day, my first day and I was cents away from $10, with just 50-60 visitors.. The Adsense is by no means intrusive, or the primary concern on the site either, so its not being pushed as a priority.

And i've been on $9.xx yesterday and so far today as well.

Just my experience so far, but it proves you don't need tons of visitors, and all of my pages have been indexed lately - about 90% of the actual pages I have.
