Imagine that you start a new business idea. Most people would expect something out of it. Mayby cash enough to quit their daily job. But imagine that when you are done 5 weeks later and are going to publish it, your system gets corrupted. You have no backup, have no access to the project files. The only thing you can do is to format your computer.

After the format you pay a company to fix your hard drive(getting the deleted files) with your files so you can get them. It turns out that they give you wrong drive back and give your drive to a completly other costumer that instead of leaving the wrong drive back, trash it. And now your drive with all your future ideas and projects are lost.

Would you get frustrated? That depends only on your expectations..If

    1. You expect your system to work properly(especially if you try to protect it).
    2. You expect a company you pay to not make mistakes.
    3. You expect that a completly stranger should be sane.

Then you will probably go mad. But if you prepare yourself for shits to happen, switching focus and enjoy basic things like food, drinks, sex, sleep, air, your friends and family a bit more then you can still be happy. It might sound easier than it is, but I think it's the best thing to deal with such issues.

There's nothing in life that can be taken for granted.

And when it comes to money, I think the needs are hardly satisfied, since we want more and more and more many. Therefore, one shouldn't focus on money too much. Getting money should be a hobbie, not an endless need(because as soon as one need get satisfied you get a new need and a new need..but not really happy). If you don't expect your car to look better but instead think it's good as it is, then you wont need the money to buy. You get the point.

This is true when it comes brilliant ideas, but depending on many side-expectations isn't wise even if you have success as your highest priority.

    I agree latehorn.

I never really like setting targets, because normally on the internet I over-estimate a lot (does everyone do this?) and I normally end up over-hyping myself. I don't think 'high achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation' is consistant, watch enough underdogs win football games who definitely aren't expected to win and you'll see where I'm coming from. Sometimes high expectations leads to pressure and stress which can lead to failure.
