So you want to start reading tarot cards. First, you need a family member to buy you a deck. They work much better if you do. Than you should take some time to clear your mind and meditate so that you can channel your guidance properly. Than you shuffle the deck and ask the person you are reading for to cut the deck. If you are reading for yourself just cut the deck yourself. Than draw the first 5 cards and put them in a line in the order you picked them. The first card is your signifier card, the card that represents you, the second is your past situation, the third is your current situation, the fourth is your advice, and finally the last is your future based on the advice. There are many other spreads you can play with but I like to start simple and work my way up.

The Celtic Cross is one of the most commonly used that requires 10 cards. The first card you choose will be the signifier, it gets laid down in the center of your space. The next card to be chosen goes directly on top of the signifier and represents the immediate influence on the person you are reading for. The next card goes to the left of the pile you just made, it represents the past influences. Below the center pile lay you next card, this one is your foundation. To the right of the center pile lay your next card, this is your future influences. Above the center pile you place a card, this card is how the higher power is influencing you. Now in a column to the right of the cross you just made lay your remaining four cards. From the bottom up to the second to top card these are some warnings or advise you must heed. The very top of the column is the result of the reading if the advise is listened to.
