There are fake Microsoft security updates being sent out by e-mail and all members should be aware of this, do not click on these links as they go to fake hacker sites.

If you are a Windows user enable automatic updates and do not answer any emails from virus writers.

Always some scam on the go. I think I've had 7 or 8 phishing emails in the last week, each one purporting to be from a different financial institution.

Thanks for the warning. I would always say to do it through windows update.

The only scam that made me have a look was an e-mail from ebay, from the correct e-mail address asking me to update my address details by giving my credit card details. Ebay do ask this on their website, if you have changed address, and I knew I had to update my details and give a credit card number. It was very well done, but I would only ever update my details directly from the site, and not through e-mail.

BUt we are the net savvy group. Just think how many people are complete fools when it comes to online transactions etc... I would say 90% of the people I know will fall for these kinds of things, so I tell them to watch out for this kind of stuff. SOme people look at me dumbfounded.

It is not hard to fall for it Debunked as many folks are on official Microsoft email lists.

In addition when you go to the links provided the website looks just like Microsoft's update and patch pages.

That is why they call it getting fooled Debunked, Microsoft must get these sites shut down at their hosts by working with governments worldwide.

I have seen members of forums post links in their posts that loaded malware on the users box when the reader clicked on the link in the thread.

This guy posted the link without ever looking at it first, how stupid is that  I had to have his post removed by the moderator because of this.

I was able to remove the spyware with a ADAWARE scan, but this guy should have never left that link on the forum.

PS: Most hackers are coders and most computer users are not, that is like me trying to figure out what Shawn does, I can't do it nor can the average computer user stay online very long without using tools like Spyware Blaster and SpyBot 1.3 and taking warnings to heart about opening attachments and email from unknown senders......

OK, so you got him to pull the link out in that thread, I see that now, just wanted to be sure that you were not out to get us

It is bad when someone posts a unknown link on a forum, that is why guest posting should never be allowed on any forum.
