It must be your API key. You need a correct working API key to make akismet work

You can always register for a new API key. Then save that key to a safe location and you can use it in any of your blogs. I own a blog network and I use a single API key for all of them. Just make sure you turn it ON to filter spam or you can use other plugins to fight off spam.

    Just two cents.

That's one way to do it. However, I prefer to just use plug-ins that prevent spam. Akismet does the job for most things, and there are other plugins out there that block comment spam. They have a database of blacklisted IP's and do a really good job of picking it up and blocking it. Its all automated and you don't have to do anything.

It is more or less as simple as this. If you're still wasting your time fighting comment spam, you're doing it wrong.

    We do the following:

Have askimet set up on our blogs
Have a personal plan with incaptula

We have found that the two together stop any problems and we now probably only get about 5 spam blog comments a month (if that)

I use Akismet and this works really fine and I approve Valuable Comments manually.
