First blended site - please be gentle with me

I've just put together a new site attempting to blend my ads today. Please feel free to comment either positively or negatively

    www.onlinelovehunt.com

A question for the more established blenders : How many ads normally get served in a 160x600 unit? I always thought it was 4 but looking at my site it seems like 5 is common.

I've got something of a love/hate relationship with link units. They require an extra click and I've tried them on some of my other sites and had a mixed response. I may well consider for the next round of updates, though. Thanks for the feedback :)

Very nice, but it felt like you over did it with the adds, and the subject of "love" doesn't seem to go to well with a "blender" layout. but still nice.

Do you read left to right or right to left?

Always remember - for the sake of aesthetics and general human nature to look left - no matter what happens - humans look left to read. Without learning anything they come across Ads - why would anyone click on ads.

You should give some info to the customer, you generate curiousity and use that curiousity to invoke them to click on your ads.

You with me? No - then click on the articles site in my signature to see the blending example. Here is another - publisherscloninghouse.com/Article/How-to-Proofread-Like-a-Professional/6562

Interesting feedback. Especially since the example you use has ads on the left hand side of the page....I'm now even more confused than I was to begin with! lol

I used the Google heatmap and the recent research about readers scanning a site in an F shape. That's kinda why I went down the route of putting the ads on the left margin.

Left side not of the page but just the content. Ad is still blended within. Yours is standing alone. Use link units instead - will look like leftnav menu. I had seen one heck of a job done at one of the sites - I am digging that for you - hope I can find it.
Not sure of you but most users I have spoken to do not like to see Ads without really getting the meat on the site.

Yes and no. The idea is to generate money from AdSense of course and the site style should reflect that. However all of the content is unique and it's an area that I'm interested in and have a vested interest in through another one of my sites. As I said on my blog

That's why I wouldn't call it MFA as such.

too many ads on the main page. Sometimes it can make sense to remove all ads from the main page and only show ads on all other pages.
