    i am looking to create a forum for webmasters.. which one will be better to use ?
    Mybb or SMF ?
    i tried PhpbB but alot of spam and security problems...

    I've never used SMF but I've happily used MyBB for a few years now and been happy with it.

    I have worked with all these three

    1. MyBB (ease and similar to VBulletin)
    2. PhBB3 FM( You can get the mods so the SPam and negatives are much much reduced)
    3. SMF (Good but the other two are better)

    i think using smf is a better option than mybb. it's a well established and great forum softare with tons of extensions

    Never used both myself, but have used forums using both of them. I prefer SMF, and if you plan to use wordpress with a forum, go with SMF.

    If I didn't have any other choice then I would go with SMF, Simple Machine's simplicity yet professional themes/skins and plugin support clearly defeat MybB and any other "free" forum software.
    (Vanilla being an exception in its design and beautiful design)

    phpbb rc1 was released so you can't say that anymore :) phpbb is the best "Free forum" on the market and is even in competition with Forums that you have to purchase. phpbb 3.o is a new era and I suggest you have another look at it! :) I have all the free forum demos at my site and with 100% confidence I can say that phpbb is the BEST Free Forum Software on the market. With Tons of developers creating mods phpbb can be easily transformed into anything you want literally. Mind you mods aren't for the average person, some people like scripts that are easy to modify and besides the new html style phpbb has it's not easy to mod. Adding simple google code is easy but mods are not... Unless you have time to read and learn copy paste functions.
