Why on earth would anyone spend hours creating accounts and submitting content to 233 "social networking" sites. I'll stick to a not so social network known as Google. thx..

Some of these social networking sites have dofollow so you get backlinks by simply submitting your post. It's also another way of meeting potential readers and network buddies. Most of the time I spend online is spent on networking.

Ok, hundreds of PR0 backlinks aren't very beneficial, especially when considering the amount time involved to obtain those links. If I wanted hundreds of PR0 links over night, I'd just use my TNX account.

Guess I'm just not into the whole "network buddies" scene..

    Yes they do

Social networking sites are great places to create links in google. I submitted a post on digg last night and literally in less than 5 minutes it was already crawled by google and is searchable, though not for the keyword I was hoping :( but it does help to build links.

If you want to get a new page into google, there arent many quicker ways then submitting it to digg and other sites like it. After I submit a site its always less then 24 hours before its in google.

Again, "hundreds of PR0 backlinks aren't very beneficial." And of course your digg submission was indexed within 5 minutes, the GoogleBot lives on Digg...

there more to backlink then PR, i dont agree with spammy social networks etc, however i would take 10 PR0 backlinks (providing they are relevant to my site or target my kinda audience) over 1 PR5 link.

Agreed - 10 PR0 backlinks from non-social networking sites (legitimate pages) VS. 1 PR5, I would probably also take the 10 legitimate PR0s.
