yeah i will tell you a technique . try downloading demo version of top antivirus it will cover your one or 2 months use it till it expires, repeat the process for 2nd best then 3rd best antivirus and use it for year . then next year there will be a new version repeat the process. so in 1 year you will use 7 - 8 different antivirus with full protection legally for free

I think Avast is the most popular free anti- virus. I use it and it's good.

if you are not using nulled software and you are a legit, you not need any anti virus :D

most of the anti viruses are "good" viruses, spying your pc and tell to inteligence services what are u doing, what u like, what ideas you have in your brain, what porn you watch, what music u listen, if u dont care that your private life is watched by "agents", then u can use panda, kaspersky, awast, etc

more, careful with the fake activated ones (yes, that ones from the warez forums), that are spying you more haha

if u are crazy to have one anti virus, just install windows defender, or essentials

In free antivirus, I would recommend you to have AVG. Its not comparable to the premium solutions its the best to use and is very much user friendly.

I highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials, free and powerful.

Also Malwarebytes for an anti malware software.

    Good luck :)

I use AVG - I have for the last few years. I've never had a problem with it, or had any issues with the 'bad stuff' that circles the internet. Works perfectly fine for me so you may as well give that a shot. If not, Avast is also pretty good as far as free AV's go.

Well the thread started on 10 Jan 2013, I do believe the OP should have gotten his/her favorite antivirus software. Also if you do a search there are a million and one of such threads. Mine if I close this? For those who haven't post, "Free Firewall", "Sex before Marriage" etc, do a search on the forum, you can have all the "sex" you want. Thread closed.
