Free Ipod? Xbox. Is that true?

Hi guys, I have seen many website offer free ipod, xbox, T.V and more good stuff. Is that true? Any one with experience? What is the real thing beyond this offer? Some have a privacy policy, Could you trust them? I would like to know from your own experience. Cheers, Don

 

If its too good to be true, it usually is, right? I'm sure there is a catch.

 

I was thinking those company made they money from ads. Using your home address to send you a lot of junk, but some do have the privacy police which should protect you.

some of them really do give you a free ipod (ish)

i was looking at one the other week, you had to sign up for one of their offers
for example, buy at least 2 dvd's every 3 months for 24 months, and then get 5 friends to sign up and do the same thing.

However, you then had to pay £25 to cancel the subscription to the dvds.

So it would end up costing more than a £100.

I suppose its still free, as you are getting the dvds aswell, but its just too much hassle.

Personally i would never go in for one of these things, just letting you know that some of them are legit

 

These sites require you to sign up for some program and for you to get 8 (or whatever) other people to sign up for a program too. The money they make off referrals for those 8 sites usually covers the free item, or it's close. They win in the end because the follow through rate of these things is so low. I wonder how many people have done it, gotten fewer than 7 others to sign up, and given up.

 

I have signed up for numerous free xbox, ipod websites, in the end I just gave up trying to advertise them, had a few referals, nothing much to brag about.

 

And that's how these companies make their money.

 

i have gotten a free ipod from freeipods.com a while back i got my friends to sign up for certain offers that were actually free back then. i dunno about now though. all i can say is getting referrals online is a pain.

 

These companies make the money on the offer you sign-up for which easily covers the cost of the item you get for free. Also some require your mates to buy the offer to inorder for you to get your free gift!

But like yous said, most of the time there is a catch behind them!

 

The basic business model is flawed IMO. It assumes the majority of the people don't get the offers completed.

 

The fact is that most of the people DON'T. If even half the people got through they'd go bankrupt. But as is some make some nice change.

 

it sure look good to be true... i had a different experience... i had an email spam that i won in a lottery in england... then i made some little research and i found out that it's fraud because i found an article exactly the same email i received but different name... be careul on where to sign up...

 

I've looked into several of these sites. Some require you to complete one offer and get 12 people to complete one offer as well. The problem is that these offers are generally along the lines of sign up and use this credit card or switch to this phone provider etc.

Others try to get you to buy their products through other means and once you buy enough products from them you can get an ipod/laptop etc.

 

I've talked to one person who went through and did it. Just because he happened to be in the market for the things they were offering. He wound up spending more than he would have just buying the ipod (seems like one of the things he bought was a plasma TV, or something ridiculous like that), and he didn't mention signing up his friends. It seems like this was a couple of years ago, so I'm sure things have gotten worse.

This thread makes the second person I've run across who's claimed to have actually gotten the "free gift."

 

Well these are just point redeemal sites. You get the site their affiliate comission for spending on stuff you want (most of the times free trials) and they share that comission with you. I have a site like this and i know im not out to rip anyone off =P

 

I've just started in on the process of getting free stuff after doing a fair bit of reading about it. Many of the sites ARE scams, or at least they are sneaky enough that getting the free item isn't worth the hassle. However, there are a few that are legit. For more information on these sites you can read the forums at http://forum.freeipodguide.com. That's also a good place to trade referrals so you can get your stuff quicker.

For those who are interested in legit sites there was an article in Wired magazine (http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,64614,00.html) about freepay (also called Gratis) which is one of the better known legit sites. I'm signed up with them for an ipod, and the offer I completed was completely free (it was a free trial for RealArcade) and I was able to cancel it as soon as I got credit for completing the offer.
