    The logo making software out there either free or paid is really limited. As it has to pull in images from somewhere to combine to make your logo. Not normally a bad deal but the images they use are no better then clip art and this never really produces a quality logo you can be proud of. I would suggest just asking someone with design experience for help. If you don't have money then maybe you can do something for them in return IE write an article or provide a link to their site.

    I do pen and ink drawings tell me what you are looking for and I will see what I can do as you are looking for a free logo it would help my protfilo as this is what I want to do design company loco.

    There is always gimp! http://www.gimp.org/ it can be a little hard to master but its a great open source project and its totally free!

    I second on GIMP, there is also Paint and another one I forgot the name of.

    Photoshop and Illustrator are the best paid options.

    I don't know but I think if the OP was wanting to learn how to use Photoshop or Gimp he would not have asked for just a logo maker.

    If you just wanna make a quick logo and you're not interested in learning gimp or inkskape then you could try http://cooltext.com/ which is basically an easy to use live online version of gimp!

    Yes, CoolText.com is a good one for simpler Logos, I also use FlamingText, which I understand is also part of Gimp? They have a huge variety of unusual Fonts.
