    I've tried quite a few free hosts, but not yet been able to find a good one. Your website will be very slow and there will be a lot of down time; and as said above there is an increased risk of your site being infected by the free host. I would start with a cheap hosting plan, all websites should be able to make enough money to cover the cost of hosting. Just put adsense or some affiliate ads on there to cover any costs.

    If you want a personal blog it is probably easier to start up on Blogger or Wordpress. If it's something you want to build on then you can always export to a paid host and domain later on. And if you lose interest after a few months you haven't lost anything.
