Fruitcake Lovers?

Every Christmas season, the comedians trot out their fruitcake jokes, describing it to be the worst gift that anyone could give a person. I seem to be one of the few people who absolutely loves fruitcake (my favorite is Shirley Jeans Fruitcake made by the Capitol Cake Company in Baltimore, MD.) I am I alone in this passion or does anyone else on DP like this seasonal treat??

 

Not sure I have ever ate fruitcake. I think one of the annoying things that people give at Christmas is chocolate. It's not a bad gift, but not a great one if you aren't a fan.

 

I got all excited upon seeing that someone finally had replied to my post of a few days ago. I thought "There is another fruitcake lover on DP!" Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case. Thanks for your reply, anyway, though I also like chocolate an awful lot, as well.

That is excellent. I have finished this year's holiday fruitcake (I ate it all over the past couple of weeks as no one else in the family likes it) and will be looking forward to it once again next year!

 

fruitcake has great taste than other flavor or cream cakes.

I like fruitcake, especially the light kind! I thought I was the only one in the whole world. Good to know I'm not alone on this.

 

I also prefer the light kind and also without nuts. The brand that I mentioned in my original post above is exactly that!

 

I've never heard of Shirley Jean's (American?) but my name is Shirley and my sister's name is Jean.

 

Yes, Shirley Jeans Fruitcake is made by a company in Baltimore, MD. It is their only product and they have been in business for 82 years. I discovered them last year and it is now officially my favorite fruitcake.

The fruitcake was named after the founder's wife. They say you can order them online, but I did not see how. Two different supermarkets carried the cakes the past two holiday seasons in my area and that is where I found mine. Good luck!

Well, I suppose that it is technically a "fruit" cake, but not what I had in mind (candied fruit being the key to any fruitcake.) What I generally do not like about banana bread or banana cake is that the baker tends to want to add in nuts. I like nuts, but not in cakes.
