Getting a "signature" from your site members

Hi folks, I am following up on a website idea I've had for many years now, and one step of the system I am developing requires "certification" from some members.
I need to have a document on my site, which registered members must sign.

Normally, this kind of thing can be faxed or posted back, but my requirements are:

    A quick turnaround time, and
Credibility that they are telling the truth, and
The ability for me to conduct business from anywhere (i.e. not the office where my fax machine is)....

Is anything similar being done at the moment? I know that some sites make you check a box saying "I agree to these terms, etc.." but that wont do in my situation...

I've been looking at Fax to Email services which might be quite promising. The visitor can download the document, print it, sign it, and fax it to a special number which converts the fax into a digital format, which ends up in my email inbox...

The problems with this, is that the services charge a premium on the fax numbers, so my visitors might end up with quite a bill when sending the fax, also, I'm not sure if this works globally....

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers!

Try using an efax service for the fax. This is pretty much exactly what you specified.

I think that some can turn the fax into a PDF or other acceptable document. They can also provide you with virtual phone numbers, sometimes in several different locations, or 800 fax numbers.

    Try:
    efax.com
    send2fax.com
    dataoncall.com

Also check out Freedom Fax by Freedom Voice. Their toll-free fax services start at $9.95 a month and give you 100 free minutes. You get the fax in your email in a PDF or TIF format, not the proprietary format that eFax uses.

This might help in case you need to send it over to the client for verification.
