Getting Loads Of Phone Calls For A Room

Some muppet put an ad up in the paper for a spare room and signed it with my mobile phone number.

So I've telling people they've got the wrong number all day. I'm starting to get irritated so I'm thinking of ways to turn this into an opportunity.

What shall I do just to get some fun out of this?

- Invite them to drop by tonight half 10 so the muppet typing his phone number wrong will have 100 candidates rocking up the same time and pretty late? I could ask all of them to do a 'secret knock' like knocking Queen's We Will Rock You on the door or something.
- Get them to pay me a deposit which is 'fully refundable' should I not choose them for the alledged room?
- Ask them to e-mail a picture first?
- Take their credit card details so 'I can do a credit check'?
- Tell them it just burnt down?
- Tell them they can move in tonight for just £35 a week?

Any suggestions?

 

Get an 0898 number and route it to your mobile. When they call your mobile tell them that somebody has let it slip that the house is being shared with a number of up and coming models and you are now vetting all applicants proffesionally and they need to call the 0898 number to complete the vetting process. When they call the 0898 123... keep them on the phone as long as possible, build their hopes up and ask the nastiest questions you can imagine. A nice sadistic little money maker

I could also reverse market the situation. Get their details and sell the leads to Estate Agents. Sounds like hassle though.

Tell them the ad had a misprint. The rent was actually published at 100 higher than the asking price. Then tell them to come by the pad at just after 10pm to check it out and for an interview.

Then make sure they have the right address by having them tell you what it is.

Then drive over with your video camera at about 10pm and post the video up here so we can watch the mayhem.

 

"Yeah, the room's still up for rent! Sure, I'd be glad to have you come over. Could you stop by at about 9? Okay, sounds good. By the way... I have a really odd favor to ask. My girlfriend is coming over late tonight, and I want to get a bottle of wine to have around when she comes over, but my car is broke down... Do you think you could pick up a bottle of cheap stuff on your way over? I'll pay you back double whatever you pay for it. Really? Thanks! See you then!"

Repete with every caller, but change the times 10 minutes or so per person.

Then the dude ends up with 15 people coming over that night, all spaced 10 minutes apart, and for some reason they all have bottles of wine in their hands..?

thats the most comic suggestion in my mind, would be absolute comedy to see a crowd gathering outside his house all at the same time to view the apartment!
