Which one is GIMP most like? I like Fireworks a lot better. So my fingers are crossed.

Definitely more like Photoshop. However, its support for PSD files is very flaky. I had a large PSD image that I was unable to open in ImageMagick or GIMP. From online forum posts, it seems like this problem is more widespread than I thought.

Well, PSD is Adobe's proprietary format. They certainly don't want free Photoshop clones popping up. So it's not surprising that nobody else can get the format 100% right.

There are some extras for the Gimp that can make it even more like Photoshop. There is a "Photoshop menus" add-on, IIRC. It reorganizes everything to match Photoshop as much as possible. There's also the "Gimp Deweirdifyer" which makes the Gimp more like the Windows version of Photoshop, and less like the Mac version.
