godaddy question

I want to register a domain name with godaddy, somewhere along the registration they warn you that if you use standard registration your personal info will be found in the whois directory and if you don't want that you have to pay them for private registration. What I want to know is, if I go with the public registration will that really be a problem? or are they just trying to get more money?

It is real simple, if you want a private registration, you pay extra and none of your contact information is published.

Some want the data published, some folks want others to contact them so they can sell the names to interested parties.

Other webmasters want to remain secret because they do not want anyone knowing who owns the site.

I like to remain in the public eye in case my old girlfriend wants to try to get ahold of me

 

Watch out about putting your real phone number in. I've received some many prank calls from people online it's insane.

I keep mine private too... I didn't like the GoDaddy price but my domain is stuck there for 60 days so I just bought the private registration.

Don't need weirdo's calling or writing or showing up at my door.

ok, now I dont' know what to do, I don't want to pay more than I have to, so can I just make up my info, I'll be paying through paypal anyway.

 

Don't make up anything, you need correct information or you may lose your name. You must use a current email address for communication.

 

I'll just give them the info that they need. For example they sure don't need my address or phone number, if they want to contact me, they will have my e-mail.

 

You are worrying way too much, I have 500 domains all with correct info and get very little or no problems and there is no fake information.

You should use all correct information.

Buy the private registration if you want everything to be confidential.

 

Yes, unless your site become very big, there shouldn't be too much of a problem.

 

If your domain is for an online business, consider reading an article I wrote recently concerning website credibility, before deciding to register with false information.
