Google Desktop Search alternative

    I know this is a really old subject so I apologise in advance!

    I have been using GDS for years and I have tried all of the "alternatives" but nothing has been able to even come close. I have set up a set of search terms which I have used in all the different options available to me and GDS is the ONLY one that comes up with the results which I know to be true. 'Apparently' Windoze 7 search is capable of searching contents of files. I have followed the instructions from what I can find of how to set this up and I always get zero results back so that's out. Also, the other search options are just not helpful in searching to such an extent as I am looking for.

    Based on the above, has anyone come across an option which is not findable through the search engines? Perhaps a golden nugget of a program that is not getting any publicity in the results (because if there was a program enabling me to do the same as GDS, I would advertise them on ALL my sites for free! Seriously!).

    And... if I had the available cash I would being a website for all those people who want GDS back to have a say and ensure Google know about it! I know Google is not the sort of company to actually listen to its users, but maybe, just.. maybe... (or if there is one out there already, please let me know!)
