Google Friendly Links

What is the definition of a search engine friendly link? As the different engines give different weight to different stuff I'll assume it depends on which one we're talking about. Obviously here we're taling about Google. Is the anchor text the be-all end-all? Or should I do something with the "title" tag in every href? I haven't heard, or read, much talk about the href title tag anywhere and I'm wondering how helpful it can be. Or should I not use it at all?

Technically I think it is a "title attribute" you are talking about. If you call it a "title tag" people will get confused with the tag by that name used in the "head" section of the web page.

I have seen this discussed at length on a number of forums and the general consensus seems to be that Google just ignores "title attributes". The one thing Google does seem to value on a graphic link is the "alt tag" or "alt attribute".

 

Yeah, the original post is confusing. The title tag is somewhat important (the one in your head section before the body tag). And anchor text is very key in relation to your backlinks. And as Compar has stated, the alt tag for your images is also weighted in google's algo, but I don't think it's nearly as important has having good clean text links that link back to your site (or link to your inner pages within your site).

 

Yes, on further review I realize that the "title tag" is, of course, the Title Tag of the page. At the time I was working with the alt tags in on my pages and started wondering about that title attribute and how I could use it. Then realized it might not make any difference. I thought it might be a handy way to get some relevant keywords onto the page.
