[search=google]Googletestad[/search] is some strange KW that shows loads of searches in Wordtracker and Overture Inventory.

A DP Forums search doesn't show any mentionings of the phenomenon but there must be one or two of you following the saga.

I blogged about the GoogleTestAd story.

Just wondering, what's your take on all this? An SEO's or SE's prank? An actual super sleuth KW that Google employees use to monitor something? What about the Ask Jeeves involvement?

Even limited ot the UK inventory Overture shows this:

What's your hunch on all this?

Some SEO's picked up on it nicely, offering their eBooks on pages that rank for the term.

    1) invent new word.
    2) create crappy content to sell software, get clicks etc.
    3) auto query SE's and wordtracker
    4) high profile SEO sites and blogs pick the "news" linking to you
    5) PROFIT!!.

    Really is very creative marketting.

If that's it then it is pure genius, creating a market from nowhere in nowhere land to thousands of searches daily. You'd expect the current number one to be behind it then since they;d have inside knowledge on the deal.

When I was looking into it I needed a tool that searches Google's cache per day back so you can find which page mentions it first. Unless you're lucky with the wayback machine, that aint gonna happen. Such a historiacal search would especially be interesting on the link: command. That would expose the prankster.

But I highly doubt your explanation is the correct one. Just doesn't seem to add up to me. Why make an ad on AJ to a non-existing domain?
