I gived my wife great present - I named a star after her name. It is cheap (around 20-30USD) and you get certificate along with software which shows you position of the star at any moment

thank you. Once I have also gived her "boyfriend coupons". There where 20-30 coupons which she could use at any moment (I didn't have right to refuse or delay usage - this was great for her because I spend lot of time in front of PC). Example of coupons:
    - 1 free going out to a cinema
    - 1 free going to dinner
    - 1 free free cleaning apartment
    - 1 free hug
    - 1 free dance
    - 1 free sex :)

That's like giving someone a certificate for donating money to a charity in their name. How useful.

You can also buy land on the Moon, did you know that?

I didn't say it is useful but it is something special. Buying land on mars isn't the same because selling land on Mars isn't allowed by UN. Star registration is international internationally recognized way of naming stars.

Special or not, it is still foolish and has no real value. If you give a random person a choice between a star that they will never see in their life and something *real* instead, for example a piece of jewelry (the usefulness is the same), guess what they'll be more likely choose.

If you think that people actually like these imaginary "gifts", it's because they are just not showing you their disappointment because they are polite.

Off course but what when you have already given that person jewelry few times? After some time it isn't important to get something that is "real". Person wants to be special and get something that isn't usual gift.

By the way, I think that in this situation, the best and most enlightening gift might be showing the person that astrology is actually nonsense, instead of strenghtening her false beliefs.
