I use to have an alienware and it ran photoshop pretty good but it got very hot very fast! It's nice in the winter though (it cold here in canada)!!!... been playing with a mac recently and its just a dream to work with. So i suggest get a mac if you don't mind the price tag.

If you aren't a mac fan or would rather get more bang for you buck, go with a dell xps laptop. If you aren't using an external monitor go with the 1530 which has a 15.4" screen vs the 13.3''. You can configure a laptop with specs as good if not better than a macbook...of course you don't get the renown leopard OS, but it does cost less...unless you get some extreme customization...like I did.

Pretty much if the OS is not an issue I would recommend the dell XPS series.

Mac with allot of RAM, just don't buy the RAM from Apple, you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Don't even think about it. Like others said get a Dell, security, stability, compatibility (aka Windows!) and support should be key factors in your decision.

    Don't become a mactard
    [IMG]
EDIT: Ohhh.... You're a multimedia student, that explains why you went to Apple in thought that they'd give you a better experience cos they 'look good' (Disclaimer: They don't, I never said that) and other media mactards have them.

I think MacBook Pro is the best.
