    *** UPDATE #2 ***

Okay, so here is what I told google in response to the last e-mail...

And then they sent me back an e-mail saying the following:

SO THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! USE IT IF YOU PLEASE :)

PM me if you want the simple JS code for free! :)

Have you made any conversions with this? More importantly, have you noticed a decline in returning visitors? Although this is ingenious, I would hate to be driving away the vast majority of Internet Explorer users.

Myself as an IE user would immediately close the site unless something i really wanted to see.

Also, does it affect search engines? Like does it send them away to that page too?

It would depend on how you do your code. If you do it correctly then it shouldn't be a problem with search engines, they will enter the website normally without ever having to see the Firefox landing page.

Good question. Any site I goto that asks me to download something to see their site, I exit right away. There may be a link to proceed in IE but I would not even waste my time. As far as the TOS, I would still be careful because there are many people at Google and while one tells you it ok, later someone else might ban you. All it would take would be someone reporting you and you will have no chance to appeal.

Have you every called one of those customer service centers for big companies, you can call ten different times and get ten different answers.

Just use caution both for Adsense and for traffic.

    Good Luck!

    ^^ That's not random...

I agree that if I came to a page like that I'd quickly go back. Unless it is something extremely important I am not going to scan the page looking for a link in. In my mind, I determined I'm out of luck within a split second... Definitely not going to waste time hanging around figuring what the heck is going on.

    Just my 2 cents... ;)

So how has this trick worked? Have you noticed more FF signups?

I presume that it would decrease traffic, though. Is that true?

Agreed. While it is not against the ToS, you should have the page auto-redirect after a set time AND show the continue button in a manner that makes it clearer to your customer. You aren't likely to get many conversions either way, but you will definitely get more people clicking through to your site if they see the continue link before they decide to simply go somewhere else.

I would also like to applaud you for your creativity. =)

Unfortunately this hasn't turned out like I hoped.

Though it hasn't decreased the number of visitors, it hasn't resulted in any conversions either. I have had 4%(8/193) click throughs, but no conversions.

I think I will store this away until I have a very successful site that has a purpose.

When I start a forum there or start updating regularly and see that I'm getting a lot of return visitors, I might implement it again.

This way, my loyal visitors who don't have firefox will be surprised with a new welcome screen and are more likely to click through!

But until then, I think this is going in the closet.

This script might be useful for some, so if you want it, let me know!

    :)

Thanks for all of the feedback!

It should redirect you if you view it through the IE browser O_O.

    Anyone else get this error?

You have to understand that a lot of those visits came from DigitalPoint. We are webmaster's and we aren't really going to click on ads let alone install firefox which most of us have.

You need to make a new site with 0 traffic from webmasters and you'll see some accurate data.
