I am a certified BigCommerce partner and use BigCommerce and its 'sister' product Interspire Shopping Cart a lot. BigCommerce can handle most business requirements, however, if you use product variations a lot, you may have problems.

For example, your customer can select the products size, colour and material. The way BigCommerce handle the variations, you have to enable/disable, set price difference, variation code(sku) and image for each variation choice - eg. Size 1, Colour A, material A and Size 1, Colour A, Material B - two very similar setups, but you have to define everything for each choice (well, things are set to default and you can change the price, variation code and image IF you want to). There is no QUICK way to set up, for example, all SIZE 1 are available in BLUE or YELLOW only. However, there IS an add-on for Interspire Shopping Cart (the version of BigCommerce where you can edit the code and create your own cart functionality) which allows mass product variations to be setup quickly and easily.

Yeah , it's great so far. There are a few bugs but most of it are pretty good. The price is pretty reasonable and they do have a pretty good support team. You can see my live site with them in the signature. The only a little bit confusing with me is the emails portion. I usually set up my emails with the host but with them, you have to transfer your email to somewhere else.

    Yes I tryed it.
    Big mistake.
And Big Commerce is a Joke!

The software doesent even allow basic things like moving your product display order. Or being in charge of the way the store shows your product.
Nothing. Not even a functional store front.
    Big Commerce is total frusteration.
Take my word. I do not trust these guys to build a dog house.
Make them my partner in business? That would be nuts.
    These guys are clueless.

These guys are money grabbing little trolls and will get you if you stop in there. BEWARE!

I agree to Jim, when it comes to customization of functions on Big-commerce, its good for small shop which has limited products i think.

For Big eCommerce site it may be problematic, it all depends on your needs.

Isn't that what their Interspire shopping cart solution is for? Customization. Interspire owns BigCommerce.

I believe that Big commerce are for people who doesn't know too much programming and add info in easily. As far as customization, we haven't done a lot to it. But overall, they do have a lot of tools to help you boost the website.

Yeah I've looked over BigCommerce's feature list but they don't mention anything about having the ability to manage multiple stores from one shopping cart platform like Magento. I believe with Interspire you have more control of customization of your store & how it will look online verses BigCommerce.

If you know anything about coding html/css then you'll be fine using BigCommerce as your ecommerce platform. I've used it for 3 different stores now. One of them started in May of 2010 and in December 2010 we made over $13,000 USD from our website. That's no affiliates - all sales just from free, organic search results.

    Read my new blog here.
