Have You ever Had An Idea For A Site? What Did You Do?

Have you ever had an idea for a website, got a quote to build it, but couldn't afford it? You wanted to build the site but you really couldn't afford to. That's the situation I'm in. I wonder if others here have found themselves in that situation? If so, what did you do to get your site built? Or, what would you do?

Well, if you are looking for advice, then offer to form a partnership with the coder/designer. Someone is usually interested in this type of offer, and then you know that the coder will have a genuine interest in building you a good site.

find someone with skills you lack and see if they're interested in a joint venture.

Well in my opinion the best way is to own the site 100% no partnership , just pay a freelancer to do the works ....

Open source is the solution…note that there is a FREE open source script for every commercial script.

    Good luck

Open Source can be the solution, but there is not a free OS script for every commercial script. Plus, even if you find an OS solution that's close, it can still require some modifications to get exactly what you want out of it and if you aren't a programmer then you'll still end up paying for one to do that for you.

The partnership idea has merit, and can be highly beneficial if you find someone who's going to care about the project and be willing to add the skills and time you can't. There's also a great risk with taking on a partner, so you have to weigh the risk vs. reward values after getting to know the perspective partner personally.

One other method that I rarely see talked about in these type of threads here but has been very good for me over the years--is to find someone with the skills you need and convince them to do the work in exchange for marketing space on your site.

I've had this offer made to me many times in exchange for programming work, and if I thought the person's idea for their site was solid, believed they'd work to build the site's popularity and traffic, and had the time available to do the work I usually agreed.

As the site owner, you get the work you want and feel your site needs without having to give up part ownership in your site, and the programmer gets some real estate in your site's niche for advertising their services or affiliate products.

For me, some of my better affiliate sales come from deals like this I've made in the past; it's a great way to get "widget" affiliate links up on a "widget" related web site without having to actually learn all about "widgets" and operate/promote a site of my own.

These deals are win-win for both the owner and the programmer--provided the programmer has a need or can make use of marketing space on a site in whatever niche your project will be. Giving up some header or sidebar space for a negotiated length of time in exchange for programming work you can't do yourself is pretty fair, and for a programmer who wants to advertise their own services or supplement their income with affiliate marketing it provides opportunities on niche sites.

HTH and good luck to you.
