Thanks for the info. Do you mind if I ask if you took Schweitzer's CourtCash course? I've been getting emails from him about a free webinar but I've read some fairly recent unflattering comments on blogs about him.

 

Do you have any suggestions in regard to online courses or books on this?

First of all, I have not heard anything good about Schweitzer, at all. I believe he says youcan enforce judgments anywhere from anywhere, and that is absolutely wrong. I don't know anyone who is any good at this that doesn't focus on one state, unless they are debt resellers, which is an entirely different business.

I would look into "Success as a judgment recovery specialist" by a guy named Peter Gilboy. Sierra Judgment Recovery has a course also, and I have heard good things about it. (Never seen it though)

I'm warning you though, this is a tough business.

That said, I know a couple of guys in Arizona who do it, and do well at it.

You can't be afraid of a courtroom, or of law books, and you gotta be willing to never give up.

i'd say stay away from anything debt related. i was involved in the debt business and am now having to get out of it due to strict federal regulations.

I too am looking for a niche to get involved with and havent crossed anything that has caught my eye yet. The green movement is really big right now but i'm not really sure how to tap into it. I'm not going to knock on doors asking people if they want to buy solar panels for their homes during a recession. I've heard from a few people that they feel something to do with healthcare will be the next big thing. Given Obama's health plan and whatnot...

I guess only time will tell, but if i come across anything good i'll certainly shout it out.

My advice, particularly if you are doing any form of informative site (blogs, etc.) then you should do something you are passionate about. Personally, debt content bores me to death. Any type of site that gives information requires traffic to make you money. Traffic on those types of sites require some type of authority. To gain authority you have to be a long-term standing community member (in most cases). The problem is that by the time you ever see a penny on most of those sites, you'll be bored to tears. The key is to find a topic you are passionate about, and developing a site that is unique and useful.

Sounds to me like you are passionate about games. I think there is still a market out there for something Starcraft II related that would be very useful. I've got some of my own ideas in the niche just no time to get the job done.

 

What type of federal regulations? Would it put you in a position of being sued?

 

Look for long tailed keywords instead of the general ones mentioned. Target those first then attack the keywords you mentioned once your site is more built up.

 

depends if you are dumb. im in the debt relief industry and the new regulations take effect in late september, early october. they are regulating the manner in which you can collect fees for your services. if you chose to abide by the new laws you can continue doing business without any problems. If you dont, then they will shut you down.

Only problem is that the new fee structure they are allowing isnt enough to cover the cost of overhead associated with running this type of business, so you simply cannot earn money anymore.

i'm sure there are other debt related industries that are fine, but alot of them are being looked at.

loan modification was just heavily regulated. consumer credit counseling was getting looked at as well. it pretty much comes down to not being able to charge an upfront fee for service. so you have no way to cover your costs in the beginning which will force you to go under.

 

You can make money with any niche as long as there is a market out there. Even if that niche is competitive to crush the competition you need to think and market "outside the box". Simply, don't do what they are doing or you will get slaughtered!
