I have a flight out of Reno here shortly and Im headed to Little Rock. From there my brother and I are going to drive as far south as possible and see if we can help out somewhere.

I'll let everyone know how it goes when I get back on Tuesday. ;)

Way to go, man. Most people just bitch about whose fault it is, others get off their ass and actually helps out.

Dont feel that way! You have no idea how much your money has helped. We were not able to go as far south as I would have wanted to but we did go to Monroe LA and we talked to MANY victims of the hurricane. It is amazing how different opinions are compared to what the media is saying. EVERYONE we talked to said they could not believe this was being made about race. I found that most were very offendid at what was going on.

Our money (I sent some as well) has helped tremendously. The red cross needed serious funding for an operation this big and Americans have come through like we always have.

I'm trying to stay away from the Katrina debates now because I feel guilty turning the situation into an argument, but I have to say that it is discusting how some speak when they know NOTHING about what is going in those peoples lives.

I would just say keep sending money. If you are going to donate go directly through the Red Cross. We saw them EVERYWHERE so I am confident they are spending the money in the right areas.

This was a very eye opening experience. Like I said we were not allowed to go see the heart of the damage but the people we had talked to just came from it.

Most are greatful for what American has done to help. :)

my mom is currently in the disaster training with the red cross and is getting very irritated with it. basically, its 2 60+ year old guys who volunteer their entire lives to red cross telling everyone in the class how important they are and making jokes like...."we went into this one house during hurricane ivan and saw the credit card we provided them just laying on the table so we hid it from her as a joke" i mean, seriously, he thought this was funny.

people like you who go there to help with the right intentions i totally admire, its just frustrating to my mom cause she wants to go and work for the red cross but she has to sit through this crap just to be able to go and drive a truck and deliver sandwiches to police and fireman.

i am grateful that many businesses around here are paying their employees to volunteer and go there to help, i think that is a great thing.
