Help in burning disk

Hello, please don't laugh at me. This may sound stupid but I need your expert advice.

I need to burn or copy some video clips to a disk so my kids can watch it on tv with cd/dvd player.

The problem is I tried to burn couple of clips to a blank cd but when I played it cd/dvd player I only got the audio and it's not showing any video or pictures.

    Here is what I did:

    1. The video format are in .avi they are short clips around 3 - 5 minutes. (nursery rhymes actually)

    2. I use windows media player to burn it to the blank cd. ( I even watch a youtube video on how to do it with Media Player).

    3. I bought the blank cd from a computer shop, very cheap actually, the label says cd-r with a few descriptions regarding length of playing time.

    4. When I first started the burning process, it asked me how to burn the file, like a USB or CD I pick CD since I was using a CD and not USB.

    5. But when I hit start burning I got an message saying could not burn this type of file, and needed to change format to file system in order to proceed.
I did not that waited a few seconds and my disk was ejected. and burning done.

But alas it will play the video only the audio or music.

I tried my best to explain the whole thing, here. I admit I may sound stupid.
But I think it's always wise to ask.

    Thank you in advance.

Better use Nero to burn files.

And first you need to make sure which format is supported by your dvd/cd player. But generally MPEG format is supported by all. So, you will need to convert your video and make a Video CD while burning with nero.

You should use a software like Nero Burning ROM. What Operating system you're using in your PC?
If you're using windows Vista or Windows 7 you don't need to install any other software. It allow burning the disk without a software installation.
