Discussion in 'Photoshop' started by toughshot, Feb 17, 2008.

Okay, I have been struggling with this for some reason and need someones help. I have an image that is text on a somewhat gradient background. I need the background transparent and the text to stay normal. Can someone help me fix this problem. The image is attached if you want to give it a go. If you do fix it, please tell me the steps you took so I understand where I was messing up.

What is this for? If you can use HTML... that would be preferred.

Ok... first... JPEGs don't do transparencies. Only GIF and PNG files. With text your best bet is saving as a PNG-24. You using photoshop ?

Is this more like what you are attempting ?

.png files are not displayed properly on IE6 (On IE7 works fine). So maybe is better to use .gif files

Yes, that is what I am aiming for, however like ajsa52 said, I need it to be .gif so it works in all browsers. That is exactly what I am looking for though. And yes I am using Photoshop, and yes it is for the web.

Why not use text... and just use a background image to liven it up on the page ? Your text there is what you would want search engines to find.

I don't think a GIF image will look too nice with text on a transparent background. There is a way around that stupid IE bug... search for PNG Alpha Fix. Its not easy, but it can work if you really want PNGs to display correctly in IE.

Text would be essential to use there, however that test best fits in with the website and it isn't a basic text everyone has.

I haven't done this yet... but I believe you can embed a font into your page for that purpose ???

Dam... was looking around... and the font embed thing might be a IE only thing and not be supported in FireFox.

there are javascript ways to embed fonts too, but I'd just like to warn you that fonts are considered software, and pro fonts can be pirated if embedded without permission.

There are plenty of free and good looking fonts here: dafont(dot)com that you can use, I really like labtop and cicle
