Both are good platform to start with. Personally I like joomla to work with.

But it depends upon you which one you find easy to customize. Wordpress mainly used as a blogging or article website

What are your needs and skills? I personally find WordPress extremely easy to work with and there is nothing in a website that I need that WP cannot do.

I'm more of a Joomla guy than wordpress. I have used wordpress for scholarly articles and Joomla for Kenya News and newspapers and once in a while get a client: I immediately run to Joomla.

Wordpress is very easy to post articles but I don't come up with something unique--mostly a content panel for posts and the sidebar widget area on the left or the right. On the other hand, being used to Joomla makes it as easy to post and website looks very professional and can potentialy be very unique.

I think that as soon as you are looking for functionality beyond blogging, then you really should look no further than joomla simply for the scale of third party involvement now in developing software and plugins to provide a huge range of different abilities. ecommerce, video, forums, social media etc etc. If you take a look at the extensions directory on joomla.org you will see just how much there is. And of course, a really large proportion of it is open source, or at least has a free version if you can put up with a link to the developer.

For information website the best CMS is definitely WP, but it is hard to optimize it when traffic load increases a lot. If you plan a website wich will be used by more than 1000-5000 visitors daily, I would suggest to work with Joomla.

    It was my confusion :D
but finally I choose Wordpress, and my reason is, for me Wordpress is simpler than Joomla, but Wordpress as powerful as Joomla, a lot of plugins, a lot of themes, even there are much free plugins but has pro ability available out there and also many free awesome themes.
After all, there is one more thing that makes why I prefer Wordpress instead of Joomla, YES, you know it, that is the size of the file. Pack or unpack, Wordpress has smaller size than Joomla.
    So . . ??
