Help on using social media to fund raise for a not for profit.

I graduated college two years ago; I am still looking for a full-time job.

I have a chance to get a part-time job with a not for profit organization as a social media specialist. The point of the position would be to use social media for fundraising.

I have a lot of experience using social media in for-profit organizations. I have no experience using social media for fundraising.

Can anyone give me some advice on using social media as a fundraising tool?

    Thank you in advance.

I've never done this myself, but as a self-proclaimed marketing genius (lol) I would suggest the following:

    - Post heart-wrenching images that people feel compelled to share, or short stories that people can connect with emotionally (related to your organisation of course) e.g. if you are raising money for animal cruelty, show a guy punching a kitten (a stupid example, but you do need to 'shock' the money out of people)

    - Include a shortened URL in each post that takes the visitor to a really clean landing page with a lot of focus on getting people to 'donate'.

    Hope that helps!

I think it depends on what platform you are going to use, and that probably depends on the niche the not-for-profit is targeting. Can you offer a little more information on what the not-for-profit does and then we can help you hammer out a strategy?.

Also, I agree with everything element says. Those are all strategies you should try and implement regardless of the platform and targeted group.

The organization is trying to combat diabetes. Here is their website http://josephgarilusfoundation.org/ .

I asked if it would be okay if I wanted to delete giving them my marketing plan until Monday. They said that was fine. Their initial online and said they wanted someone with fundraising through social media experience. I definitely don't have that. I was hoping that if I came up with a good marketing plan it would matter. That's why I came here first for advice. However in their correspondence to my requests they pointed out that I did and tell them how much experience I had raising money with the social media.

I definitely everyone's advice to connect with potential donors on an emotional level. But, since I don't have any experience fundraising with social media I'm looking for all the advice I can get.

Just out of curiosity, what are some of the best ways to make clean landing pages without being able to hand code? I have used cool mojito in the past but, what you can produce with that does not look terribly professional.

When I first started to learn Facebook marketing there was a lot of information about requiring people to like you from your landing page. Once they did this then they were allowed to move to your Facebook page. I believe that Facebook is configured in such a way so that this is no longer possible. Is this true? If so, what is the best way to make and use landing pages?

I guess it's really important to figure out what they want to accomplish with their social media approach and proceed from there.

Are they using social media as a method to try and connect with a younger audience? If so, then maybe focus on creating an effective strategy centralized around either Instagram or Twitter, the two platforms that probably have the most wide ranging appeal among the younger demographics.

If they are looking for a more centralized approach where they can reach a wide range of adults (35-65 years old) then you would probably want to lean towards creating a Facebook orientated social media strategy.

I'd also suggest taking a look at a website like offerpop and figuring out if there are any relatively cheap applications you could integrate into your strategy. If you can come to them and say "I would run this application/contest on your corporate instagram account to build awareness amongst the youth demographic, and we would run these applications/contests to serve our community via facebook". I think that's your best chance, forming a comprehensive (and multi-layered) approach for their social media strategy, as most of the candidates they interview probably aren't putting in that level of effort.

I think the guy was trying to pull some sort of garbage. I submitted to him my plan. It was in the most detailed plan, because I have been in a situation like that before and when I submitted my plan
They used my ideas and never called me back. At least that's what I think happened.
This guy responded by telling me that I had no plan at all. But he was willing to wait for a few weeks for me to be able to gather an audience than when I started marketing to the audience I gathered he would pay me.
