The best way is to split the computer into pieces and make sure everything is clean before running it. You shouldn't have any power source including batteries connected to the computer while it is wet. This will increase the chance that the keyboard or parts will no longer work. Until then you can use the onscreen keyboard if you are running windows xp. Start, programs, accessories, accessibility, onscreen keyboard.

Thanks, proffs! But it's not that bad. It's just very annoying.

And I'm afraid to take the keys off because I feel that they will keep falling off after I put them back on. I have a Dell latitude and the little notches and stuff that keep the keys on are very tiny and quite fragile.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Rob do you have a dog?

You could just let the dog lick the keys clean.

No but my parents do and I'm going there tonight. You are a genius! I'll just put a little bit of peanut butter on one of the keys. :)

If you're wondering what comes next then look no further then the wisdom taught in the old woman that swallowed a fly song.

I thought my lap top fan was making noise and bought replacement fan, have worn letters off my keyboard and bought replacement keyboard but keep plugging along with original fan and keyboard. Am on my third hard drive. My guru did take the caps off my d, e, and t and remove hair from below. I would have to be typing with a thimble or thimbles if I tried that.

    Well that wasn't so bad.

I just used rubbing alcohol, Q-tips and a can of air. The sticky keys feel as good as new! :D

    Thanks again!!

This is the main reason I forked over the extra money for the CompleteCare Accidental Damage Protection Services when I bought my Dell notebook this summer.

I'm always eating and drinking while on the computer. I've spilled cans of soda on my desktop's keyboard too many times to count. But, they are only $20 or so and therefore are easily replaced.

Glad to hear you figured out how to clean it and that's it's working, Rob.

you could try lighter fluid instead of alcohol then super lube dry film spray. that's what i used when i have sticky keys and is too lazy to pry the keys out... i dunno if it'll work for you rob but good luck :)

Hmm .. this is a sticky situation.
I just hope that you don't have an Acer laptop.

My daughter spilled a tiny bit of her milk on the keyboard and basically killed a few keys. Thank god it was just the windows, Ctrl and Alt.

I read a suggestion in the net saying that the first thing to do is to switch off the laptop so that there'd be no short circuit or something ( but that's already too late now, I guess).

BTW, I think it's not a good idea to pull the keys. Laptop keys are stucked diffrently from desktop keyboard. I pulled 2 keys from my laptops and never been able to put it back.

My suggestion? Switch off the laptop. Get rid of whatever water you can & get a new keyboard.
