Help unlocking a Photoshop file.

Discussion in 'Photoshop' started by Toddy, Mar 18, 2009.

I have this Photoshop file that I want to play with and use some of the graphics out of it, however when I open up the file in Photoshop I can't duplicate the file or select and copy any of the image and move it to another file. I was wondering if anybody knows how to unlock the file so that I can play around with. I would have attached the file but it is extremely large even after zipping it. Thanks

PNG he would be able to edit, he stated it was a 'photoshop file' so I assume that's a PSD.

Things to check: colour mode? is it indexed colour? is it CYMK?

I'm sure the solution is simple and hiding right under your nose, when you find it let us all know so if somebody in a few weeks has the same issue they can read the solution!

I tried to give you a link to the actual image, however I can't post the link, I am new ext. Maybe someone could PM me and I can send you the actual link.

I've been able to turn it from a gif to PSD However I still can't edit the photo. The color mode is in grayscale..
Innovati, I'm sure the something super simple I just don't know it is....

I've had problems with PNGs before in the past, just hadn't been able to edit them.

Where did you download it from, PM me and I'll see what can be done, or PM innovati etc...

Maybe the layers of the document are locked? If you look in the layers palette you will see a padlock next to the layer if that is the case. Some designers, when providing a PSD, will lock the layers.

this issue is that it's a GIF in indexed colour, going to change the image mode to RGB solves this. Case closed.
