Help - Yahoo 404 Errors and Broken Images

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by TwisterMc, Feb 5, 2006.

    My wife has Windows 2000 Professional and lately it has MAJOR Yahoo issues.

    If you go to Yahoo or MyYahoo not all of the images show. If you try to hit the 'Mail' button it goes to a 404 error page. If we try to enter through mail.yahoo.com it says 'not found'.

    Something is blocking access to lots of Yahoo URLs and we don't know what.

    The first time we start the computer we can get to the login screen and it opens up a security certificate question about a 'domain mismatch' No matter what we pick, we can't get into Yahoo mail and then we have most of the Yahoo related problems.

    We don't have Norton or any other 'always running' anti virus/spam software.

    We've tried Yahoo and IE and had the same issues.

    On my Mac on the same network, everything is fine.

    What I figure is something with that certificate is causing the issues but we are not sure what is controlling it.

    Can anyone help?

    Go to Windows Update

    Right window click >> Custom

    When it's done having fun redirecting you look in the Left Frame for....

    * Software, Optional *

    left click that then look back in your right main window...

    You will see 1 or 2 sets of checboxes. In one of those sets you will see a checkbox for...

    * Root Certificates Update *

    just check it then click the link that says...

    * Review and Install Updates *

    This will update the 2 certs that cause known problems at yahoo. It will also update a few others that also have trouble with many of the online stores bestbuy, compusa, walmart. There huge list, but I forgot where I put it, so I can't post it. But this will fix your problem!

    da!

    Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.

    We have figured out that if we don't allow Trillian to start up when the computer does we don't have the issue. (until we start up Trillian)

    Update:

    We followed your instructions and installed what you said. That didn't fix the problem. Do we have to restart? It didn't tell us that.

    Once Trillian was started up, Yahoo websites fail to work. We end up with a lot of 404 errors, temporarily not found pages and no access to Yahoo Mail.

    We did recently update Trillian Basic and we think that's when the trouble started. No more updates available that we find.

    We stopped using Trillian and started up the official MSN messenger and guess what, we still have issues. Yahoo Mail works again, but not all Yahoo services.

    So, I think it's still a bigger issues than just Trillian as it's happening without Trillian being on.
