hey Firefox users, do you find it unstable?

Hi everyone,

Firefox seems to be very unstable from time to time, using up alot of CPU and doing strange things like not letting me click on links. I've uninstalled all the extensions I could stand to lose, I only have 4 running. Does anyone else have a similar problem? My laptop has a 1.7 processor and 1 GIG of RAM - it really shouldn't be an issue. Any suggestions?

 

No problems here. It fires up pretty slow (compared to IE but that's embedded in the OS I guess) but once it's up and running it's way more stable and faster than IE for me.

 

I do find it can be a bit of a memory hog and does occassionally hang, and everynow again the clipboard doesn't work in it. Still prefer it to IE mind.

 

I don't find it unstable so much as I find it to be a bit of a resource hog. I use it mainly on my little 256mb of RAM laptop and it seems to have some issues from time to time getting very slow and unresponsive when using firefox.

 

I occassionally have issues with FF but at the same time I also mess with it quite a bit. I run dozens of extensions and constantly tweak settings. Lately I've been running a nighlty build and they seem to be even better then 1.0. FF 1.1 should improve a lot of the problems people have as it will include almost 18 months worth of fixes.

 

good good good, thanks for the info Stymiee, I'm looking forward to FF1.1. I'm really impressed that it can use 100% of my CPU resources...maybe it's my special tab managing extension- that sounds like it messes with the core of the browser...I'll try it and report back in a few days.

Despite the problems, I certainly won't go back to IE except to check formatting and CSS stuff.

 

I'm running both Mozilla & FireFox. I haven't had any problems with either one. As far as startup times I let Mozilla run in the background, sure it takes up some memory, but it starts up almost instantly for me.

 

FF has a known issue whereby it does not release the memory back to the OS when you leave a page or close a tab. I've found that by closing and restarting FF every now and then. (two or three times a day) that I am able to prevent FF from draining the memory and becoming unstable. I hate ie and use FF exclusively.

 

Yep I've noticed that restarting it helps...for a while... I tend to work with a zillion tabs, maybe I need to cut down - haha!

 

No problem in using my FF... on version 1.0.4 now with 7 extensions running

No problems with firefox on Windows at all. In the early days it would die a lot. But nowadays it seems solid to me. On Solaris, I get one crash a day... usually around the 3:30pm time.

 

Just look at the memory FF uses in task manager. Check it when you first open the browser and then keep an eye on it as you use FF. You'll see the amount of memory used continue to climb. If you don't have a lot of ram, it will take a toll very quickly.

 

if i have a couple of tabs open ff seems to eat up cpu and ram

 

From what I understand a lot of the memory management issues are resolved in 1.1. But it always seems to vary user to user so I guess you'll find out when 1.1 is released.
