    Scientist predicts 'mini Ice Age'

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A Russian astronomer has predicted that Earth will experience a "mini Ice Age" in the middle of this century, caused by low solar activity.

Khabibullo Abdusamatov of the Pulkovo Astronomic Observatory in St. Petersburg said Monday that temperatures will begin falling six or seven years from now, when global warming caused by increased solar activity in the 20th century reaches its peak, RIA Novosti reported.

The coldest period will occur 15 to 20 years after a major solar output decline between 2035 and 2045, Abdusamatov said.

Dramatic changes in the earth's surface temperatures are an ordinary phenomenon, not an anomaly, he said, and result from variations in the sun's energy output and ultraviolet radiation.

The Northern Hemisphere's most recent cool-down period occurred between 1645 and 1705. The resulting period, known as the Little Ice Age, left canals in the Netherlands frozen solid and forced people in Greenland to abandon their houses to glaciers, the scientist said.

Who knows what what we have done to this planet, or if it is even us ot long term trends.

I do find it strange that this year there is no snow and rain in winter, but just 5 years ago I remember there being like 60" of snow in december.

Just because you dont understand it doesn't mean it isn't there.

Actually, we are in a period very hot for the earth :p
This is life, i am glad the earth is alive. Sometimes it gets hot, gets cold, sometimes its scratchy so it sends some lava up there to calm that up lol...
We survived the last ice age, i dont see any problem at all here.

I choose to believe scientists that base their findings in fact. Thanks for asking.

In Europe it is freezing. Everywhere even in an island like Malta where it is 6 Celsius.

Ok maybe not very cold for you but for Malta it is.

It looks the mini ice age started 7 years before predictions.

Sorted, now we can pollute more in order to boost global warming that will help with the ice age!

I think he's referring to the fact that 2005 was the warmest year on record.

Well if he thinks 5 years is enough time to go from 60' to barely any and it be "Global Warmings" fault then you need to transfer the Crazy part of your name to him

I did. I commented on his second line which implied that in 5 years Global Warming caused 60' of snow to turn into barely any.

What else would he be implying mr  guy
