They were upgrading their data centre yesterday and have been having intervals of outages for the past 3 days of upgrades..

All seems to be resolved as of now and their CEO put a post up about it.

All the EIG brands were down.

The "upgrade" is not an upgrade at all. It's a major downgrade for former Hostgator clients. Hostgator (EIG) moved their servers out of Softlayer and into the EIG datacenter in Provo, UT.

Everyone laughed months ago when I said how poor the services are going to get, after EIG bought out Hostgator. It's all coming true. Their support staff has gone to hell, now you get the downtime. HG is going to soon be just like all the other EIG brands.

    I would move from HostGator.
Most big companies are just awful.

I am having an account with Bluehost ( though this is EIG company as well) and didn't have any issues with the servers these days. My site is working without any downtimes and the speed seems to be fine.

If your site is hosted in their Provo data center, you should experienced a down time in 2nd Aug.
Hostgator staff opened a forum thread in HG forums about the issue and it is resolved now.

Right now I'm still having problems - unreachable or unacceptable slow access to websites. i don't even want to submit issues to support staff, it's waste of time.
moving sites to my another web hosting provider will solve the problem

It has been lots of complaints already posted regarding them. Would recommend to move somewhere else, moreover, many small hosting companies will offer free migration of your accounts, so there will be no hassle.

It's hard to suggest alternative hosting without knowing your budget and your requirements. One thing that you DO NOT WANT is to leave hostgator and join up under a hostgator reseller.

I agree, you need to carefully pick the provider so to not host your sites again with the reseller of the same company..

After this I am leaving Hostgator, they own several other hosts as well from what I have been told. Including Bluehost.

Hostgator doesn't own them...Hostgator is owned (along with many other companies) by a company called EIG (Endurance International Group).

Here is a fairly up-to-date list showing all the hosts they own: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endurance_International_Group

Yeh I knew it was something like that. Wow! I didn't realise they owned half of them though. I thought it was like 3-4 to the group.

LOL!! Yep, they're a HUGE company. Unfortunately, they are notorious for taking really good hosts (like Hostgator) and running them completely into the ground.
