    As long as you don't have the names "face" and/or "book" for your social network, I think you should be fine. Use Zuckerberg for some inspiration and who knows, they might make a movie about your "social network :).

    Just remember, getting a social networking site like Facebook up and running is easy enough for a web developer, but unless you have enough investment funds to market the network and provide enhanced features, it will be very hard to even compare your network with social networking giants like Facebook. I think Zuckerberg started off with $1000 in seed money and look how much he is worth now...

    What benefit is there to creating your own site? Using a tool like that isn't exactly going to get you to create a site that would realistically compete with Facebook.

    Sorry, but I'm going crazy while reading all those posts kinds "let's make our own facebook" or "why i can't beat facebook?"... God, because it's facebook... if you want to beat it as a web resource - create smth yours, something new (NOT AS FACEBOOK), with new idea, conception, smth catchy. It could be even a social network, but it MUST have smth unique, smth which FB doesn't have. Just this could be a key to your success.

    Enough being lazy, guys!

    bad idea, duplicating others is not good, fb is a clear leader in that space. if you really want to create a network consider using your own cms and of come up with a totally new idea
