Best method to increase your pinterest followers is to repin others posts and to join boards that are related to your niche , however posting a good unique content is useful too and never forget to use the hash tags , just like twitter hash tags will increase your chances to be noticed by other pinteresters , and remember patience is the key goodluck

1. Make sure you fill the basic stuff like location, description properly on your profile. You can attach your Facebook and Twitter profile as well. Also, verify your website as verified websites are ranked higher in Pinterest search results.
2. This one is very important. Follow people in your niche. See people with similar content. Follow them, repin their pins and repeat. Slowly you will establish yourself in that niche on Pinterest.

It's also a good idea to have at least 18 boards with at least 5 pins each, because that fills up the entire screen when a user visits your page and makes you look active.

 

Another aspect to this is whether or not to have a business acct. or to mix in your business pins with more personal ones. It seems to me that most people have better success getting followers if they have business type interests mixed with their personal pins, it seems more natural/less spammy to the follower & usually gets follows more quickly. Some people do not like to do this & prefer to have business only accts.
