How contractions have led to messed up grammar. 'Of' has replaced 'Have'

It's funny that certain abbreviations have led to bad grammar. I just noticed that the word "of" has replaced "have" in many sentences on forums and on Facebook. For example, people say "Should of" and "Will of" and "Hopefully of" instead of Should have, will have, and hopefully have. This isn't the only time, but one I notice a lot. The funny thing is that when you ask people about it, they think that they are correct, stating that it sounds right. It apparently comes from "should've" and people are trying to look intelligent and lengthen out the contraction to two words but failing to realize that the 've' actually means 'have' as the 've' comes from that word. Rather, they sound it out and just say 'of' instead and then it spread to uncontracted words like 'will' and 'hopefully' or any word before have.

It's really not that important, but is this the first step to really bad grammar as I've seen people forgetting proper grammar and spelling due to text speak and all of the abbreviations? Not sure, but just noticed this and wondered if anyone had also noticed the "Should of" rather than "Should have?"

As an English major, poor grammar is my biggest pet peeve. I am tolerant of those who are learning the language and make mistakes and furthermore, applaud their efforts. However, it saddens me that native English speakers are demolishing the language! I have noticed the use of "should of" instead of "should have." I have also noticed the ignorance when it comes to "their, there, they're" and "you're, your." Honestly, it drives me insane. It is just shameful that these people have supposedly been put through school and yet they can't spell worth a damn. This tells me that our education system sucks, parents don't care and students don't care. People also don't READ anymore.

I'd like to also blame Facebook, television and the government.
