Is there a site that will help sell advertising on my site? Any recommendations? Not sure if this is the correct forum for this post, so I apologize in advance.

The easiest way to do it is to run Google AdSense.

    Chris, they are a number of ways in how you can make money from your website through advertising;

Google Adsense - you get paid per click.
Affiliate schemes - you get paid per click OR when someone buys a product

Banner advertising is slowly becoming extinct, because most of us block banners out, or simply ignore them. You could charge someone for link advertising, but this would depend on your sites PR, and how many outgoing links are on that page

The best two options really are Adsense and Affiliate links. Not many companies are going to advertise with you unless your outranking them.. then they might be interested.

    Hope this helps a little.

If you have a niche targeted site you can also sell ads in a more direct manner. There are a couple industries that I'm very involved in and do a lot of personal networking. Because of my personal connections and reputation I can pick up advertisers and sell for flat fees (often much more than I'd get from adsense in that market). I think the key for this is knowing the industry and the market that advertisers are trying to reach.

I'm able to charge more because I connect with the consumers these folks want as customers. I'm able to send them a lot of personal referrals (not just nameless clickthrus). I often do more editorial type stuff versus just plain banner ads.

You can also utilize a service such as www.blogads.com.

If you've got good traffic and popularity it's worthwhile to look at. A good example is www.DailyKos.com. This site started out as a personal blog on politics. It's become so popular he's able to pull in advertising at $700 per ad for one week! Of coruse he's got amazing traffic to go with it. You've got have well written content and something unique to hit that mark.

I agree. Start with adsense and affiliate links, and once you are able to generate traffic, you will be able to grow your earnings from all channels.

Well advertise that you are selling advertising for one. But also:

    -Use a realistic price
-explain where the position of the advertisement will be placed
    -explain what type banner/textlink
-explain the payment structure e.g. payed monthly
-give a discount for bulk purchases and for purchases that are for a long period
-give payment options e.g. paypal only
-and any other fine prints or details that are deemed relevant

    Hope this helps

I'm currently using Adsense, have multiple affiliate programs and driving traffic to my own store. I've been approached by a company that is selling a product and would like to advertise on the site. I'm running phpAdsNew, so I could easily set up a login and offer him statistics on impressions/clicks. I guess to be more specific, he's asked for rates and I don't know how to sell him advertising? I'm hesitant to do a flat rate, because I don't want his banner to be running 24/7. This would cannibalize my store's sales. I would however like to offer him a rate based upon impressions. Question is.. what's a fair price for impressions?

My site gets 40k uniques per month and growing. Very targeted traffic.

    Anything wrong with that?

I sell my links there also - I get nothing for new sellers, commision is paid on new BUYERS.

I use Blogads, and have been very happy with the service. The keys are traffic and a sellable advertising niche.
